Cultivating Gospel Relationships

The Evangelism Committee at HHBC has labeled January "Cultivating Gospel Relationships Month".
(This committee is responsible for training for evangelism and providing regular encouragement and opportunities for evangelism.)

This coming Sunday (Jan. 4, 2009) at 6:00 PM we are hosting our kick-off event. You can find more event dates at our church calendar.

Marc Backes (here is his personal blog) is going to come and help us think deliberately about our method of evangelism. He is going to encourage us to perhaps rethink our usual three minute random Gospel presentation focus. Would it be more effective for the Kingdom of God to perhaps deliberately move into the life and fabric of our community, make new relationships (and strengthen existing relationships) for the purpose of loving those people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Who would you be more inclined to listen to: a man who interrupts you on the street to hand you a $.35 tract, or a man who gave himself to loving you, knowing you, serving you, and encouraging you over the course of months (even years) to repent and trust in Jesus Christ alone for righteousness?

Well, that is what Marc is going to teach us about.

The Backes family is currently planting (or has just planted) a new church in Jefferson City, Missouri called Eternity.

I asked Marc to come and teach us because, first of all he is a really great friend and brother who has a genuine love and devotion for my Savior! For that, I love him.

But I've also asked him because God has gifted him with a working knowledge of making new Gospel-relationships (he'll have to define that for us on Sunday). He's just moved into Jefferson City and he has deep, Christ-centered relationships with more people than any one else I know in the entire area.

Do come and join us (directions) this Sunday night at 6. We'll have a free chili dinner, and you don't need to bring a thing!
