Our Mission

Recently we preached through the book of Mark on Sunday mornings. As we encountered Jesus calling his first followers in Mark 1:16-20, we realized something profound about the nature of the church: we exist to be disciples and make disciples for the glory of God.

That is our mission: be disciples and make disciples for the glory of God.

That is the foil which we want to use to determine whether this activity, that ministry, or some other event fits into the life of HHBC. There are so many things and events that could potentially be helpful. Unfortunately, due to the finite strength and limited resources of the church, we cannot do all things at all times.

Be Disciples

So our bottom line needs to be this: laboring to be disciples ourselves. That is, working to put ourselves in God's Word, to put off sin, and to put on holiness. All the while, helping each other do all three of those things.

Make Disciples

Simultaneously, we acknowledge that we are still in this world because God's disciple making work is not yet complete. Therefore, as we grow, by the grace of God, as disciples, we want to labor to replicate ourselves in Hickory Hill.

For the Glory of God

Finally, it is not a hollow, strictly official thing to say that this is for the glory of God. We believe that the "end for which God created the world" is his own glory. That includes the church as much as it does our individual lives. Whatever our church does, whether in word or in deed, we are striving to do it all for the honor and magnifying of God's name (i.e. his glory).
